Flicker Halifax’s Inaugural Screening
A Night To Remember.
The audience and the films. It’s like the chicken and the egg, right? What came first? And a screening is sort of like an omelette. They’re tough to make without a few cracked eggs.
Moving on…
First and foremost, thank you to everyone that submitted films. We think the quality of what was screened speaks for itself. And to the audience: You came. You turned off all cell phones and pagers. And you disposed of all garbage in the proper waste receptacles. Without even being asked. Take that Empire Theatres!
We should have the official schedule posted here soon (better late than never!). By rough count there were about 30 of you in attendance, we screened about 16 films over the course of an hour and a half. And of that, roughly half the films were local. Not too shabby at all.
And, ahem, controversy… yes. What’s an inaugural screening without it? We here at Flicker Halifax don’t feel it’s our jobs to censor or to judge, but we do feel that our audience deserves respect (and forewarning!). Especially when they trudge out in the cold and spend their quality time watching this material. Your feedback is very important to us, and we are hoping you will give us your suggestions on how to handle the screening of films with “questionable content”.
This was our first screening, and we want to continue showing local and international films in the Super 8 medium. Based on the amount of positive response we received, we’re hoping to hold our next event in February. Make sure you contact us ASAP if you want to be a part of it.
Again, our sincere thank you for coming out, submitting films, and helping make it an all around fascinating experience. We’ll see you again soon.
Sincerly,
Flicker Halifax

I think it’s safe to say that when we first started this Flicker Halifax thing we never thought we would ever have the opportunity to line a bird’s cage or help a dog become house broken. Let alone be read about by 22,500 people we don’t know (minus the 6 people we do). But, low and behold, all of our dreams realized in one fowl swoop!

Big thanks to Sue Carter Flinn for trying her best not to portray us as a bunch of film geeks with too much time on our hands. It was a valiant effort in the face insurmountable odds.
And thanks to Michael Tompkins for allowing us to combine our two favourite things: humour and grand larceny.
Sincerely,
Flicker Halifax

Be submissive
1) Drop your film off at the Khyber Centre for the Arts office (1588 Barrington St., 2nd Floor)
2) Mail it to the address listed to your right.
3) Cut out the middle man and post your film online in a digital format that will allow us to burn it onto DVD or VCD.
4) Cross your fingers and show up at the screening with it (but email us first to let us know).
5) E-mail us at info@flickerhalifax.org and we’ll figure something else out.
We accept films on Super 8, 16mm, DVD/VCD, and VHS. Our only requirement is that they be less than 15 minutes long and have originated on film .
If your film doesn’t make it into this screening, don’t fret. We’re planning more in the coming months. Check back often.

WE NEED SUBMISSIONS! It’s free!
We are asking that submissions be limited to 15 minutes per person. To limit the amount of work we have to do in preperation for the event, we also ask that you let us know as early as you can before the screening about a film you wish to submit. Please specify screening format (Super 8, 16mm, DVD, VHS, Shadow Puppets, Interpretive Dance…)
